David Peters is a nuclear safety and operations leader with more than 16 years of engineering, nuclear operations, and DOE contractor experience spanning the U.S. Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program and the Department of Energy Hanford Site. He currently serves as Manager, Nuclear Safety Operations leading implementation of the Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) program, safety basis execution, and nuclear safety governance for Hazard Category nuclear facilities across the Hanford Site.
His experience includes leadership of integrated Safety and Health programs supporting high-hazard nuclear operations, including Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) implementation, Human Performance Improvement (HPI), Conduct of Operations, Lockout/Tagout, chemical safety, radiological work planning, work control, and regulatory compliance. He has managed multidisciplinary teams and multimillion-dollar programs supporting facility startup, commissioning, and sustained operations while driving measurable reductions in significant operational events.
David’s technical expertise includes DOE nuclear safety requirements, hazard analysis, accident analysis, safety basis implementation, risk management, contractor assurance, operational readiness, and continuous improvement. He holds Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), and Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) credentials and is pursuing Professional Engineer licensure.
His professional focus is integrating engineering rigor, operational excellence, and organizational learning to improve worker safety and mission performance across complex, high-consequence environments.
